New State of Kentucky Immunization Requirements for the 2018/19 School Year

Starting with the 2018/19 school year, the state of Kentucky is requiring all students preschool through 12th grade to have the Hepatitis A vaccine. This vaccine is a series of two shots, six months apart. Some students have already received both shots, however, since it was not a required vaccine for school entry, was not written on the immunization certificate.

In addition, there is a new requirement for students age 16 and older to have two doses of Meningococcal ACWY to attend school. If the first dose of MenACWY was received at age sixteen (16) years or older, the second dose is not required for school entry.

Please contact your child's pediatrician as soon as possible to see if these vaccines were administered and to obtain a new immunization certificate. Contact your school nurse if you have any further questions.
